Information and Knowledge
The media program is multi-faceted, with one of the areas being information and knowledge. It is my responsibility to share knowledge and expertise to the school community through such avenues as faculty and leadership meetings, in-service, and electronic communications. I contribute to the teaching and learning to promote the success of our school by collaborating and developing the program using state and local curricular and standards to meet differentiated needs of the patrons. Teachers and students often seek my advice when it comes to information and technology needs regarding all subject areas. I am the “go to” technology person. As the library media technology specialist, I must remain current in the trends of technology in order to assist the teachers and students. For FRIT 7235, I created my first course repository that includes information focusing on using digital technology in the educational process. To name a few, the topics include learning in the digital age, copyright and ethical issues, cloud computing and Web 2.0, audio and video podcasting, and integrating technology. The topics help to address some of the emerging issues teachers face when integrating technology into their daily lessons and instruction.
For FRIT 7234, I created resources depicting ethical uses of technology in the 21st century and using social media in the classroom. Students are connected to the Internet at all times; therefore, I teach them to use the Internet effectively, making them aware of the issues of social media and copyright laws. I stress to both teachers and students the need for using the Internet in a safe and effective manner and provide the tools to do so. I keep abreast of current news about Internet safety so that I can convey this information to the school community.
