Program Management and Administration
As the administrator and program manager of the media center, I ensure that the goals and objectives of the media center coincide with those of the school and the learning community. Working collaboratively with the school community, I share the policies of the media program and direct activities related to the program. In the leadership role, I am aware that a part of my duties entails establishing an administrative partnership with the principal and the district director in order to develop, establish, and fund the library program goals. At the beginning of each school year, the principal and I discuss the program goals, collaboration with teachers, curriculum planning, and any professional development for teachers that I plan to implement during the school year so that I can integrate the library media program with the total school program. We also discuss any additional financial needs that the media center may have to promote the media program goals.
I strive to be a knowledgeable media specialist for my students, teachers, and administrators. In this role, I am responsible for developing program goals, collections, and budgets; collaborating with teachers and students; managing the facilities; and conducting inventory on all school-level technology equipment. It is my responsibility, as administrator and program manager, to direct and guide all activities that are associated with the library’s media program. My goal is to give the program the leadership, vision, and knowledge necessary to provide active and creative guidance in the library media center as we move toward the 21st century. Within those parameters, I also establish and monitor the duties and responsibilities of the media staff, which includes a full-time media clerk and a part-time library media support specialist.
